Veronica C. Gonzales
LLP
To begin my career in law, I worked as a paralegal for 26 years where I brought tenacity, perseverance, and empathy to every case. In June of 2024, I became licensed to practice Family law in Colorado as a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP).
Beginning my legal career in high school, with an internship for a young attorney who practiced law as a Court appointed juvenile attorney was very impactful in my career journey as I was able to experience the legal field at a young age.
I worked in the Juvenile where we also dabbled in Family law for 4 years. I then transitioned to Workers’ Compensation defense and mastered that field during the 16 years while I raised my daughter as a single mother and completed college.
I worked full time the entire time I attended college, earned an Associates Degree and a Paralegal Certificate and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a Law Studies minor at the University of Colorado at Denver.
Upon mastering the role as paralegal in Workers’ compensation, I returned to family law, this time focusing on divorce, custody, and other domestic relations matters. I find that Family Law combines client engagement, the high stakes of juvenile work with the structure and organization of Workers’ Compensation, which really suit my style of practice and strengths when it comes to practicing law.
In 2023 I decided to take the next step in my career and worked to become a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP). In April 2024, I passed the first ever LLP Bar Exam to be offered in Colorado and was sworn in by the Colorado Supreme Court as part of the inaugural class of this new category of legal professional. I am licensed to practice law (with few limitations) in the field of Family Law and am working to help support access to justice across Colorado.
My work as a paralegal and an LLP is informed by my personal experience as much as my professional qualifications. Having raised my daughter as a single mother from the time she was a year old, I understand the situations of so many of our clients. I know the trials and challenges of single parenthood and co-parenting, but also the pride of seeing the child you put your heart and soul into raising, grow up into an incredible young adult.
In addition to my legal work, I enjoy visiting new places, going to brunch, line dancing, and spending time with my daughter and a close group of friends and professional women. I am the Chair of the LLP Committee of the Colorado Bar Association, which I helped form with two other LLPs. I am the Co-Chair of the LLP Division of the Denver Bar Association. I am also a member of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association. I am dedicated to bringing awareness to the LLP Profession.
